Musician, teacher, science worker nad lecturer at the Branch of the Silesian University in Cieszyn, founder and director of the Primary and Secondary State Music School in Jastrzębie Zdrój.

A renowned and valued conductor of wind bands. Founder and long-term conductor of the Youth Wind Band at the Basic Vocational Mining School at the “Jastrzębie” coal mine. He is currently the director of the Wind Band of the Primary and Secondary State Music School in Jastrzębie Zdrój, the Employees’ Wind Band at the “Jas-Mos” mine and the Student Wind Band at the Branch of the Silesian University in Cieszyn.

He is the founder and co-organiser of international competitions, including the International Youth Wind Band Competition and the International “Wind Instruments” Competition. As conductor of wind bands Śmietana has been successful at many competitions in Poland and abroad. He has also recorded three albums.
