GENERAL PRIMARY AND SECONDARY MUSIC SCHOOL IN WROCŁAW: General Primary and Secondary Music School Symphony Orchestra in Wrocław


For many years the orchestra has occupied an important position in the school’s teaching and artistic activities, as well as in the music life of the city of Wrocław. The orchestra was conducted by Jerzy Zabłocki, Stanisław Krukowski, Lucjan Laprus, Mieczysław Gawroński, Stanisław Rybarczyk, Wojciech Rodek, Krzysztof Górski and Jakub Kontz. Currently the ensemble is directed by Marcin Grabosz. During its performing history the orchestra has accompanied the better graduating students during their final concerts in the concert hall of the Wrocław Philharmonic and in the Great Studio of Polish Radio. The orchestra has performed twice during events connected with the Wratislavia Cantans Festival and in the 2nd and 4th editions of Ryszard Bukowski’s Music Days. In 1995 the orchestra was involved in the production of the movie Deszczowy Żołnierz [The Rain Soldier]. It has also given a joint concert of sacred vocal music with students of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław. In 1996 it has performed at the Porozumienie [Understanding] Music Festival, and also during the annual Silesia Cultural Award ceremony. In October 1997 the orchestra played a concert tour of Germany, a Christmas concert for children in Wrocław and in 1998 it played at the 19th Actor’s Song Review, playing H. Tabęcki’s Mass. This performance was filmed for television broadcast. The orchestra’s performances at the International Viennese Music Festival in October 1998 and its performance of W. Szomański’s Pastorałka in January 1999 met with enthusiastic acclaim. In April 1999 the orchestra played in Wiesbaden and in September 2001 in Moenchengladbach. In May 2002 it played a concert tour of Germany (Schönebeck, Helmstedt, Magdeburg). In 2005 the orchestra has become part of Wrocław’s cultural scene by playing twice at the Wrocław Philharmonic, performing during the Spring Day in Europe event and during the Classic Premiere Festival. In 2007 the orchestra played in the Wrocław Philharmonic concert hall during the Szymanowski in memoriam concert.
