Romain Guyot / clarinet

“The sound of Romain Guyot is full, clean, clear, sensuous and subtle. It is not too delicate or too light, nor is it gloomy and heavy”. Le Monde de la Musique

Romain Guyot is considered to be one of the greatest clarinettists living today. Employed at the age of 16 as clarinet soloist in the European Union Youth Orchestra directed by Claudio Abbado, he completed his studies at the CNSMD in Paris, receiving two first prizes in clarinet and chamber music. He succeeded in getting the position of first soloist at the Orchestra of the Paris Opera at the age of 22. He then won the prestigious Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York. This opened the doors of his career in the United States and Japan. He has performed in concert with some of the best orchestras, including the English Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, Tokyo Mozart Players and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France. He has been invited to play at some of the greatest stages in the world, including Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. An admirer of chamber music, Romain Guyot played with some of the greatest chamber players, including P.-L. Aimard, F.-F. Guy, G. Nikolitch, I. Faust, M. Coppey and J.-G. Queyras.

A favourite music partner of the Artis, Lindsay, Ysaÿe and Sine Nomine quartets and the Quintette à vents Claude Debussy, with which he won the competition in Tokyo and the ARD competition in Munich. He is curently a member of the Ensemble Paris-Bastille. A favourite performer of contemporary composers, he performed world premieres of works by N. Bacri, M.-A. Dalbavie, P. Hersant, J.-C.
